Ground Hog Day
1-18-10
Do you remember the movie “Groundhog Day” with Bill Murray?
In the movie, Bill Murray wakes up each day only to repeat the previous day. And
this happens over and over. It almost drives him crazy. Finally, after many days
of this happening, Murray begins to truly examine his life and his priorities.
I have a little Groundhog Day event that seems to happen every school day
morning. It doesn’t really drive me crazy, but it is kind of strange. After I
drop my kids off at the Middle School, no matter what time it is, there is the
same teacher walking from her car to the school, pulling her school materials
behind her in a little suitcase type thing on wheels. I don’t even know who the
teacher is, but it is really strange how she is almost always walking up to the
school right when I am leaving the school. It kind of feels like “Groundhog Day”
all over again.
I have a feeling that many people feel that their lives
are a lot like the movie “Groundhog Day.” They wake up each day and everything
is the same. They go to the same job they don’t really like. They come home to
the same family that is having problems. They deal with the same old issues day
after day, not really happy, but not sure how to change or what to do about it.
Maybe their lives don’t even feel very meaningful.
Maybe that describes
you to a certain extent. If that is the case, I want to encourage you to do
something little this week to make a positive change in your live. You are the
only one that can do it. Don’t count on your co-worker or boss change. Don’t
expect your spouse to change. You make the change. It doesn’t have to be
anything major. Little things can make a difference. Respond to your co-worker
with kind and positive words. Tell your family how much you love them and why.
Volunteer somewhere. Strike up a conversation with a stranger etc… I think
you’ll find that after a while these little changes will begin to change your
outlook on life.
There are going to be certain aspects of our lives that
will always seem a little mundane, but when we get outside ourselves and
starting serving others, it will give us a spark. And you know what can happen
with sparks…

Have a
great day.
